Why Civic Education?

For youth to be able to make the best contribution to our country they need to understand how governance processes and our laws are supposed to work. They need to understand concepts like human rights, democracy, rule of law and advocacy and be able to apply these in their communities. “The successful realization of Vision 2050 depended on the level of citizen participation and ownership.” Pg 14, Vision 2050 TIPNG believes there are inadequate materials in schools for teachers to teach civics. In 2008/9 TIPNG had a pilot civic education project for some schools which was well received. We now wish to expand and revise the materials and take it to all schools.

Find here the Project Brochure for more information about the project.

For TIPNG to be able to implement a project like this we can not do it without help.  Our partners in this include the National Department of Education of PNG, private companies, universities, and our civil society partners and most importantly teachers in schools all around the country.
